The BiMTOOLS 2014 are Now Available on the Autodesk Exchange Apps

SOFiSTiK BiMTOOLS are a set of free tools for Autodesk Revit Structure that are now availabel on the Autodesk Exchange App store. You can find more info on the BIM and Beam blog.

Revit is IFC 2x3 View 2.0 Export Certified, adds IFC 4 Export Capability

The latest updates to the Revit IFC exporter are now live on SourceForge (here) and on the Autodesk Exchange Apps Store (here). The updates are arguably the most important since the initial release in 2011.  In particular:

1. Revit is now certified for IFC 2x3 Certification View 2.0 MEP export.  This completes the three possible sub-view certifications (Architecture, Structure, and MEP).  Revit MEP is the first, and currently only, application that is certified for MEP export certification.  By extension, Revit is the only application that has all three export certifications.
2. When IFC 4 was officially announced in March of this year, it was expected that major vendors would begin adding support for the latest schema over the next 12 to 18 months.  Because of our open source approach, Revit 2014 is the first major application to have any IFC 4 support.  We hope that by doing so, we can accelerate the acceptance of this new standard, and lead the way in using the new classes in the schema.

While this is a major accomplishment, we consider this the start of the next stage of our development.  On the certification side, we are now putting Revit LT 2014 through the certification process to ensure that we maintain our current level of quality.  On the IFC 4 front, we plan to expand beyond the “basic” functionality and really explore what the new schema has to offer, in terms of new classes and smaller files with higher quality geometry.  Stay tuned.

There are a number of minor fixes as well as a few significant algorithm improvements in the automatic Energy Analytical Model generation used for whole building energy analysis. You can find more about the algorithm improvements on the BPA Blog.
